BOISE — One dog owner is warning others to watch out for traps in the
Boise foothills after her dog was caught in a snare this weekend.
This isn’t the first time this has happened. On Friday, we told you about
another dog that’s paw was cut after it stepped in a trap up in the foothills.
Sunday morning, Danette Henderson and her husband were hiking off of
Bogus Basin Road when their dog Cleo got caught in a snare trap. A wire
from the trap got caught in Cleo’s mouth, so instead of choking the dog
the wire cut its mouth.
“Luckily my husband had wire clippers on a pocket knife at the car, so I
ran back 20 minutes back to the car, got the pocket knife and got down
there,” said Henderson. “It took us about 10 minutes but he was able to
with the wire cutters actually snip the wire off .”
Henderson says if she’d know there were traps in that area she would
not have taken her dogs there. So now she is trying to warn others.
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says traps can be placed
anywhere on public land where there is not an ordinance prohibiting it.
The traps have to have a tag on it with the trapper’s name and address.
KTVB talked to Henderson on Monday evening, who said that Cleo is
doing well.
